Meet the Team

Founder Director

Activate started with a team of ex-military servicemen raising funds for charity by undertaking the National & Yorkshire 3 Peaks in 48 hours. Training for this event was immense, however, the well-being benefits of the participants live on.

The event was so successful that we started a walking group which has grown into the fantastic, not for profit organisation it is today.

I started my army career at the age of 17 and served seven years as a section commander in the Queens Lancashire Regiment.

Using my love of the outdoors to support the physical and mental well-being of others is my passion, it’s what keeps me going to live life and love the outdoors with my family and friends, old and new.

Managing Director

Activate Health & Well-Being CIC was developed to support people to make the outdoors accessible. After a 15-year career in executive management working firstly in welfare to work and then substance misuse for the last 6, I have developed a passion for supporting the mind, body and soul.

I lead on Business Development, Governance and Executive Management for our organisation and I absolutely love what I do. It’s my job to make sure we aspire to operate with excellence, develop our workforce and provide a first-class experience to our clients while abiding by the laws of the land.

Maintaining a good balance of physical and mental wellbeing is not just about the body, I’m also passionate about mindfulness, personal growth and doing the right thing for our organisation, staff, partners and clients (even when nobody is looking!)

Clare Harvey

Director of Corporate Development

I joined the Activate team in February 2018 to bring new corporate clients to the business. My background for the last 20 years has been a mixture of building my own businesses as well as helping others to grow theirs. With a solid understanding of what businesses need in the current climate to be sustainable and ensure growth year on year.

With my holistic training background, I’m confident that this will also help to grow the well-being side of Activate.
Helping others to acheive their best self, through accessing the outdoors and gaining holistic knowledge, is a great passion of mine and I’m excited to pass that knowledge on.

I joined the Activate group after a recommendation from a friend, and I haven’t looked back since!

I have always had a love of the outdoors, which is spurred on by my four-legged friend Molly, a bouncy and energetic springer spaniel. Frustratingly I felt restricted to where I could go walking as I didn’t have a great knowledge of different areas, and didn’t want to venture out alone and become stranded or lost. I am also an active runner (not a very fast one, but one non-the less) and found I was missing so much natural beauty by constantly road running, as I didn’t have the confidence to go off the beaten track.

Since joining Activate I have been exposed to so many different walking scenarios, be it on the canal, up a peak, round a mountain, or a local nature walk, which I would never have experienced had it not been for this group and their diverse knowledge and expertise.

I find the fun and laughter we have such an amazing stress reliever, and I sleep like a newborn baby after each walk which is priceless!

Recently Activate asked me to come on board as a volunteer, which I was thrilled to accept, and I can encourage and motivate others, whilst broadening my experiences of the great outdoors.

Hi I’m Brian, a 50 something Engineer and Company Director. I started my outdoor adventures as a young 20-year-old, regularly rock climbing and hill walking with my wife Ali and friends. Two daughters close together put a stop to that for a few years but as the girls grew older, I was fortunate enough to take the time out to walk the Everest Trail, climb Mount Kilimanjaro and travel to Peru to complete the Inca Trail and see the world famous Macchu Picchu.

In 2006 I was involved in a car accident, breaking both my legs. This set me back a couple of years, turning me into a bit of a couch potato. That was until two years ago when I met the lads from Activate and their passion for the hills reignited my love for the outdoors.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to share some of these experiences with you!

H I’m Mick, I have been volunteering with Activate for about 3 months now and it’s been really rewarding. I joined the Army in 1991 and served six years as a Rifleman in the Queens Lancashire Regiment, I have always loved the outdoors and enjoyed keeping fit. I have been a keen mountain biker and runner for many years and while in the Army and posted to Berlin I ran from here to Burnley with a team of soldiers from my regiment to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund.

In December 2015 after an Army reunion, I was invited to train with the team from Activate to undertake the National & Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge. I was happy to begin walking again after recovering from surgery on a ruptured disc in my back which had set me back for some time.

It’s not only me that has benefited from volunteering. My wife Cath is right there with me, loving the mountains, peaks and family friendly walks. We are also the very proud owners of Activates mascot Monty, our four-legged friend who is very much part of the team. I’m looking forward to supporting more people get outdoors and enjoy walking and undertaking some qualifications myself. I have completed my Outdoor First Aid Certificate and hopefully, I’ll complete my Mountain Leader Qualification in the future.

My name is Michelle, I am 45 years old. I am a single mum of 3 and I have 1 grand daughter. I also have 2 german pointers. I first became involved with Activate last October 2017. I joined them for a circular walk to Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill. I have been on several adventures since then. I have walked all my life, I also love to mountain bike, horse ride , swimming and running. I had to put my life on hold for 12 months as I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Fortunatly all is well now and I am up for lots more challenges. Activate invited me to join the team as a volunteer, I gratefully accepted. Activate tick all the boxes from family walks to more challenging activities.
